Have some Vision
Something to remember: when you look at solar power today, you're seeing old technology. Batteries are bulky with low energy density, panels are expensive and inefficient, and the devices to run off them blow through the meager amounts of electricity you might have been able to generate, even on a sunny day. However, there are whole industries trying to change all this, and they are well underway from about 8 different directions, for about 8 different reasons. solarNetwork.net is aiming to dovetail with these advances, and leverage the independent decision-making power of individuals who have access to the technology, rather than wait for someone to hand down the solution from on-high. In many ways it could be like the personal computer industry emerging from the mainframe era; we don't have to wait for some large centralized body's decision - we can develop it ourselves. I think about it the way desktop video editing developed: back in the 286 days, nobody would associate a personal computer with video editing, there was no way those two things intersected. But today, using an average desktop computer, video editing is not only possible, but in fact extremely mainstream. What changes needed to happen to get to this point? Could anyone have predicted this outcome in 1982?
