Sate of the Art
OK, so now let's adaptively "cherry pick" a few more solarNodes in other sunny locations on Earth; maybe Madrid, Honolulu, Miami, Palm Springs, Auckland, and Brisbane so that you take advantage of both hemispheres and random but statistically understood weather patterns that occur. Let's add x509 encrypted real-time data collection, expand the number of panels (generating capacity) and batteries (storage capacity) of each solarNode by a factor of 10. Let's increase the efficiency of the panels by a factor of 3, and increase the energy density of the batteries by a factor of 5, install energy efficient (even DC based) lighting and devices in the houses, and advertise on Google and TreeHugger for more choice solarNodes.
We don't have the data yet, but statistically, every geographically separate solarNode that joins the network should tend to even out the variability, at least over a period of time. (t works for insurance companies and mutual funds....) Now, create an incentive plan for solarNetwork members, with a solarNetwork currency, for customers to compete for the day's best generation and the best conservation, with live charting and ranking among participants. Encouraging live chat and wiki discussions would help share information about which electrical products worked best in their homes. Maybe manufacturers and distributors for these products would like to offer discounts to block purchasers - it could become a good on-line sales channel for them. OK: There's the technical challenge, a fun project for some....but who's going to pay for it?
